Beauty

I love beauty.
I love looking at pretty things.
My eye gravitates towards it.

My mom would always say that I would be a great hair stylist or florist.
I've always just had a natural knack for pulling something together and making it look nice.

I think sometimes it's been easy for me to discount my love for beauty because it seemed shallow. Materialistic. Non-eternal.

There are times I've felt guilty for loving beautiful things because in some weird way it seemed sinful, unGodly.

But the act of loving beauty isn't sinful. It's a heart issue. It's what we do with it.

Just like there's a time to talk about deep issues and a time to just talk about the mundane. It doesn't make one things better than the other. It's just simply the right thing at the right time.
There's a fine line between appreciating beauty and obsessing about it.

I think our Creator wants us to love and cherish beautiful things. And to find Him in it.

After all, He created it, right?

“Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful,
for beauty is God's handwriting.”

-- Ralph Waldo Emerson

I'm a Mormon, and we have something called "The 13 Articles of Faith". There's a part in the 13th one that says: "If there is anything beautiful, lovely, of good report, or praiseworthy, we seek after these things." :) Seeking after beautiful things is definitely a good thing.
But of course, all things in moderation.

Heather Renee, YOU are beautiful:) And you are right, there is a time and a season for everything.. I love observing nature and all the beauty in God's creation. Humans are different though.... We are created in HIS image. We are hIs workmanship, created to bring Him glory. ..But it is what is inside of us that does that, not what is outside. A woman can be beautiful on the outside, then she opens her mouth and brings shame to her Creator. I am so thankful that God knows our hearts and is full of Grace towards us.. and He loves to show us HIs beauty, in all of His creation,...IF we have the eyes to see it:) XXOO mucho mi hija:)

First off...you are gorgeous. We already knew this! Secondly...what a great topic that we sometimes don't think to talk about. I love your explanation of beauty and I love that quote by Emerson! :) xoxo!

Absolutely! I also struggle with the same thing, for fear of being "shallow" or "materialistic". But beauty is God's original idea, so appreciating it for what it is, and not becoming totally obsessed with it, is the balance I try to hit as well! xo

Well, in Philippians 4 it states to think of things that are lovely and pure...here He says it better than I.

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is [e]lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, [f]dwell on these things. 9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

:-)
And sometimes I get down on myself, I am reminded that I am fearfully and wonderfully made in Gods image! No other god has said that to their followers!

Just lovely! Yes! Beautiful things should stir out hearts to praise and glorify Him. It's when we don't recognize who created beauty and we seek only the created things that we sin. But we absolutely should enjoy beauty. That's what it's there for!

ps-such a pretty photo of you!!

Great thoughts on beauty! Your right, it's okay to bask in his beauty and use it to become closer to him. I really like that quote too!

Love this post! :) God wants you to see the beauty in all things, just see it through him. I love finding beauty in things that aren't beautiful to some people and I love looking at already beautiful things, like the sunset or the rain drops on a tree, things he created that are absolutely breath taking. =D

I love that quote. I am right there with you. I love looking at beautiful photographs, fashion, art, etc. I love to decorate and make my home beautiful. I LOVE planning weddings. I always felt growing up that I was ridiculed for loving fashion, jewelry, interior design, because it wasn't "spiritual" enough. But I shouldn't feel belittled or ridiculed for loving beautiful things and wanting to surround myself with them...as long as I remember WHO blessed me with those things!
If God didn't want us to appreciate beauty He wouldn't have made nature so beautiful!

Amen... I am SO loving this post.... very refreshing.... I think it is sad that the "religious" world have made godly women feel bad for being the women God created us to be... I don't by for a second that God would not want us to create and admire beauty but yet His sunsets and sunrises each day say it all.... All of His creation; humans, love for one another, sweet animals, flowers, etc. were created by Him so we could enjoy it, take care of it, and be like Him and create or mimic it by our art, clothes, design, etc.
